in memoriam:

architect oscar coloma

AIA Marianas mourns the passing of fellow Architect, Oscar Coloma, a prominent figure who made significant contributions to Guam’s architectural landscape through his work.

Oscar became a registered architect in Guam in 1983, having previously worked for T.J. Davis Inc and Taniguchi Ruth + Associates Architects. He was the president and prime architect of OA COLOMA PC that held a wide range of experience in various public, military, and private sector clients. His work has expanded to buildings across Korea and the Philippines.

An active members of the United Architects of the Philippines Guam Chapter, Oscar was the recipient of the 10th PFPA Distinction Award for the Architects Profession ( Global Filipino Practice and Service Category) in 2023.

In an interview for the UAP Post written by Ron Rocky Coloma, Oscar spoke of being motivated for architectural design and always ensuring that he fulfills the desires of his clients and their criteria. “Architecture is not just complex math and geometric use,” he said. “It is about building coordination with other engineers and other disciplines, helping them create a team composed of proficient and hardworking individuals.”

“I never had a trophy or a medal when I was a student, but now I can proudly say that the soaring buildings I designed are my most cherished treasures—my towering trophies,”
